Greetings weekend warrior rabbits! It’s gotten late in the night and I need to get my beauty sleep, so we’re going to make this quick and dirty. But not too dirty. First, what I wore this week…
Row 1 – That was Sunday through Tuesday. Very cold. Also, I was feeling the polka dot love…
Row 2 – Slightly warmer, still cardigan city, This was Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Row 3 – Today was finally in he 70’s! Yay
Horizontal pleats!
Now for fun stuff from my (now caught up, sort of) blog-reading… first off, I thought this skirt from Analog Me was so cool! And the fearless slashing of the pattern pieces… she is clearly an awesome possum!

The Great Depression… in COLOR!!
I remember seeing these color photos from the 30’s and 40’s somewhere a while ago. Probably Gawker – that’s where I get all my news. Anyway, I was so blown away I remember posting a link to them on Facebook. I was excited to see a few of them posted on the blog Inder Loves Folk Art! I m seriously entranced by the color of the pictures! Check out the whole collection on Flickr. There’s not a huge number of photos of people, but I LOVE seeing what people were wearing and the details are so much more fun in color!

Bicycle lessons
Finally – a quick inquiry. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m currently learning to ride my three-wheeled bike – I even rode it to work today! So here’s my question: I wore my Colette Crepe to work and it was alright on the bike, but there were a few close-flashing calls. So, advice on how to bike in a skirt without shoing everone my business?
Thanks! I hope all you turkies have a great weekend! I’ll be at the shop for a good portion of Saturday AND Sunday. And hopefully I’ll get in the garden for a a few minutes!!
I've been riding a bike for the last month, fist time in 25 years! I've found that knee length a-line skirts work well as long as you tuck in under your bum although in recent windy weather there were a few revealing moments but I think I'm going soo fast they can't see! Tasia says the crescent skirt is great for bike but personally I think the only the longer length one would work. I'm still doing the sewalong so haven't tested it out yet. I think the length is criticial for bike riding, too short and its there for all to see and too long and you risk getting all caught up in the wheels!
Fabric weight is also a factor. Occasionally a skirt that seems like it would be great for biking will refuse to stay down. I wore a knee length jersey a-line skirt the other day and might as well have been wearing a mini as soon as I picked up speed.
For the skirt that just won't stay down while biking, grab a binder clip and clip the center front and back together.
For a full skirt that risks getting caught up in the wheels (although I'm not sure that is a problem on your 3 wheeler) clip the sides together at center front.
I rarely bother to take these precautions… I just occasionally flash people! The only skirts I really don't like biking in are too-tight pencil skirts without stretch.

I bike to work every day – always wearing dresses that vary from mid-thigh to maxi.
The two things that I use are 1) skirt guard on the back wheel, and 2) a piece of elastic with a binder clip safety pinned to it. I just wrap the elastic around the seat post or the top tube (depending on the length of the dress), and clip the binder clip onto the hem of my dress. Works perfect 🙂
i used a vintage brooch when riding. you just sit on the bike, gather your skirt a bit, and pin it together about 6 inches down from le crotch. big fabric flower brooches work very well!
Oh patty, I blushed when I saw this! Thanks!
I just had a reader ask me the same question about bike riding. I tuck the bottom front of my skirt under my butt and sit on it. Of course this does cause wrinkling. And I figure an occasional a fast speed flash is nothing to worry about : )
Wow! I love this post – great ideas too!! Beautiful outfits. BTW, I gave you the Stylish Blogger Award because you are one of my favorite bloggers. Pam

I love the round-up!
For cycling: Clips and such to keep the skirt out of the spokes and chain, if necessary, and wear brightly colored, obviously meant-to-be-seen bicycle shorts under your skirt and flash away! You can wash or air out the shorts at work, and/or keep a spare or two in the office.
Best advice: Just ride really really fast, then no one will get much of a flash.
Says she who just ties up the skirt of her Vogue 1027 in a knot in front to keep it from catching in the rear wheels.
Thanks for the shout-out! That Flickr collection is truly amazing.
Bike advice – Avoid wrap-around styles, or at least pin them shut. I learned this during my law school days in Davis, CA. I commuted to school on bike, and it is a very windy place. Wrap-around skirts and dresses don't really work in windy climates, I learned.
