Hello lovlies! I’ve got such exciting news for you all I’m not going to lie… it’s hard to fall asleep at night!

I’ll just spit it out… ready??

The Snugbug is jumping into the ‘real’ world of brick-and-mortar!

Really, really old bricks.

Everyone… meet Jeff’s and my new shop: The Snugbug Mercantile.

We signed the lease earlier this week and are opening on October 1st.

Here’s a fake-photo of the sign. The quill attached to the bracket has already been removed – it was from the previous shop at this location, a stationers shop.

The building is from the 1840’s from what we’ve been able to learn. There’s a super funky plaid carpet on the first floor and lovely original tin ceilings.

We’ll be painting the walls.

As the sign says… we’re going to have lots of cool stuff – vintage and painted furniture as well as small things. And primitive things. Lots of painted furniture (you know how much I love chalk paint) and some new things like candles, soap, cool aprons or towels. Whatever is useful, beautiful and well crafted. We’d also love to support local artisans by carrying handmade work and we’ll be bringing a bit of that to the blog in the next few months!

There’s a full second story as well with rooms that will work great for retail space or for classrooms and retreats. We’ll see where things lead us! I’ll also be looking into carrying a limited amount of fabrics and we’re talking about a possible sewing studio as well. I would absolutely love to host sewing weekends!

I’m in love with those windows!

The shop is right on the corner in the heart of downtown Staunton, Virginia. The streets of Staunton are very charming. Here’s a few shots from right in front of the shop.

Jeff and I have been having so much fun with this, guys! As we move forward, he’ll do more of the buying – especially on the vintage and antique side. I’ll be taking care of more of the operational things and marketing. We’ve been going together on buying trips to get a sense of the look we want. Here’s some of the haul we’ve picked up over the past few weeks.

So that’s the news from Staunton, folks! I’m looking forward to sharing this all with you over the next few months!! There’ll be some changes ’round here. In the next week or so this site will be moved over to a new home on the web (but don’t worry, you’ll still be able to get to me the same way you always have!) If you follow the blog on facebook… watch for a name change! And I’ve asked a great friend of mine (and way better sewist) to join up on the blog so we can keep on sewing AND shopping for vintage kitchen implements!

Oh, and you’ll be hearing more from Jeff. Everyone, meet Jeff.
