Summer’s here (or almost here in some places) and Jeff and I are getting ready to start the next grand adventure! At the end of June, we’ll be heading north. Way, way north. In fact, we’re heading all the way to the coldest place in the country.

And I mean that in all seriousness, folks.

In July we’re taking over Northern Comfort Bed and Breakfast, farm and antique shop in Embarrass, Minnesota. This is a dream come true for both of us and honestly, we’re both probably in a bit of shock that it’s actually happening!

Northern Comfort features a five bedroom bed and breakfast in a historic Finnish homestead on a 17 acre farm. Over the years, I’ve stayed at Northern Comfort when home visiting my mother, who lives nearby. I graduated from high school in a neighboring town, so this is very much going home for me — a fact that’s mostly good, but still is causing little pockets of existential dread in the quiet moments of the night.

The farm is lovely, with a mix of pines, fields and a ton of charming barns and other outbuildings – many of which, like the main house, are log structures.

Best of all… there’s a refurbished 1930’s dairy barn right on the property that houses a busy antique shop. There’s also a small studio/workshop in the barn where the current innkeepers produce candles and soaps for sale in the shop. I think there’s enough space to set up the 3 Snugbugs Studios and am looking forward to being surrounded by a few of my favorite things… vintage things and piles of textiles.

What could be better, right?

So we’ve been in a mad rush, packing, redesigning the website and setting up online booking for the B&B. Once there, the current innkeepers, a lovely couple, will be staying around for a few weeks to help us get the lay of the land — particularly the breakfast making!

For folks who don’t know, in addition to working on the 3 Snugbugs Studios lines, I work with clients with online marketing and social media management. Once we land in Minnesota, I will continue to keep up with that, while Jeff will take on a lot of the B&B duties — breakfasts, scheduling, keeping up with the house and the grounds.

We’re super excited to dig in to more with the farm, as well! There’s already a large garden on the property and the current owners have been growing, serving and preserving a lot of what comes from the farm. Jeff and I both love gardening, so we’re excited to keep up with that – there’s even a root cellar close by the barn for winter storage! We’ve been researching fun things to do with what we grow. I’ve always been interested in herbals, so we’ll likely head in that direction. Next summer we’re looking forward to start adding to our farm family — first comes chickens, then goats, then bees….

We’ll also be blogging over at the Northern Comfort website on all things homestead (farms, antiques, food and more) and over here I’ll keep up with my textile related adventures. If you’re interested in goats-n-things, please follow Northern Comfort on Facebook and subscribe to the newsletter… which will primarily be a fun account of our farming and innkeeping adventures!
