Spring is unfurling across northern Minnesota, which means that not only is the rhubarb poking out it’s head, but many of our fun local attractions are getting ready to open up for the season. It’s an exciting time!
We’ve added a ton of local events to our calendar on the website and I have to say… I can see a few awesome getaway weekends in the schedule! For a full schedule… hop on over to the website.
Spinning and Knitting Fun
Have you been thinking of learning to spin? Ely Folk School is offering a three-day workshop this May where you can dive in and try out a few different spinning styles and head home with a hand spindle, yarn and wool fiber. Book your stay with us and we’ll send you off to class with a great gourmet breakfast!
Is knitting more your style? Then check out the Learn to Knit a Norweigan sweater class at Ely Folk School in June. The multi-day workshop will teach you Scandanavian style knitting on a doll-size sweater.

A Cook’s Getaway
Are you more of a cook than a knitter? Then check out Ely Folk School’s amazing cooking classes offered in their new cooking kitchen. Many classes are scheduled on successive days so you can fit two classes into one trip! Great for couples who love to cook!
Two great options
Walnut Potica (May 27) + Learn to make Pasties or Spring Edibles (May 28)
Apple Strudel (June 29) + Walnut Potica (June 30)

Art, Food and History
Mid-June is a great time to visit! On Saturday, June 17th, visit the Land of the Loon Festival, the largest ethnic festival in northern Minnesota with over 300 exhibitors and 25 ethnic food booths. Save Sunday for exploring the Soudan Underground Mine State Park — plenty of hiking, picnicking plus and hour and half tour a half mile underground.
